Turid Larsen, age 94, of Fox River Grove, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2021 with her family at her side.
Turid was born April 8, 1927 in Farsund, Norway, the daughter of Herman and Torhjerda Knudsen. She was a loving sister to four brothers and one sister, all who have passed. Turid moved to the United States in 1954. She lived in Arlington Heights with her brother Olav and his family until he introduced her to her future husband Norman Larsen. They were married June 11, 1955 and had two daughters, Elsie and Marit Larsen.
Turid worked in the food service industry and spent many years at the Barrington Hills Country Club. She then landed her dream job as cook at Orchard St. School , providing nutritious meals to the children of Fox River Grove for 15 years. She retired and moved on to a new career as grandmother to Ryan Coffey, Adam Coffey and Andrew Graczyk as well as four great grandchildren that were everything to her and whom she loved with all of her heart. She also found time for her passion knitting, Norman used to say “she was knitting for Britain.
Turid is survived by her daughter Elsie (Mark) Graczyk, her grandsons: Ryan, Adam and Andrew, her four great grandchildren: Kendall, Grace, Norman and Michael, her niece Jill (Mick) Wondriska, nephew Jon (Anne) Knudsen as well as her nieces and nephews in Norway and England. She is preceded in death by her husband Norman and daughter Marit.
Services for Turid will be private for the family with a celebration of her life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions would be appreciated to the “Minnekirken” at the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, 2614 N Kedzie Ave., Chicago, IL 60647.
