Sheldon Bernard Katz Obituary

Sheldon B. Katz of Trout Valley passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 1, 2024, at home with his family nearby.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 31, 1934, he was a graduate of John Adams High School, Case Institute of Technology, and Case Western Reserve University, and worked for many years as a chemical engineer in the Cleveland area.

Beloved son of Dora Greenberg Katz and Isadore Katz; husband of the late Jane B. Katz;  and brother of the late Esther Kluger.

He is survived by his children Bradley Katz (Amy Spizzo); Douglas Katz (Kimberly Katz); James Blum; Elizabeth Blum (Erik Angner); adored grandchildren Sarah, Gabriel, Joshua, Benjamin, Elliott, Iris, Linnea, Nora; sister, Elaine Lustig of Novelty, OH, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was a lifelong volunteer, including working with the Cleveland Free Clinic, as a volunteer firefighter, and for food banks and hospitals.  He will be remembered for many things, including his love of family, fishing, cooking, current events, and a good pun.

Sheldon was a cherished friend of many dogs, living and deceased, including Bebow, Jojo, Fifi, Mimi, Roxy, and Mau.

Much of the joy and comfort at the end of his life was provided by his canine roommates, who found their home in Doug and Kim’s home through the Heartland Animal Shelter. Donations in Sheldon’s memory may be made to the Shelter at https://www.heartlandanimalshelter.org/donate-in-name/, or to HIAS: https://act.hias.org/page/53286/donate/ or to the cause of your choice.

A memorial service in Cleveland will be planned in the coming months.
