Obituary

Roy Lee Johnson, 89, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Alden Estates of Huntley.

Lee was born December 29, 1932, in Denver, Colorado to Roy and Margaret Johnson.  He held a BFA in Advertising Design from the University of Denver, was an Eagle Scout and proudly served our country in the Army from 1954-1956.

On September 6, 1957, he married the love of his life, Bettye Ruth Guest.  They met on a blind date - Bettye a stewardess for Continental Airlines, and Lee working as a statistician for United Airlines - and they began their life journeys together.  Lee's career at United brought their family to the Crystal Lake area in 1962.  Lee became Manager of Audio-Visual at United, a role he truly enjoyed and held for most of his time at United.  He retired in 1993 after a proud 32 years working for a company he loved and was so proud of!

After retirement, Lee continued to do the three things he loved most in life...spending time, smiles and laughs with family and good friends, golf and travel.  He began a second "fun" career working part time for the next 20 years as a ranger/starter at Prairie Isle Golf Course, doing something fun and staying close to the game he enjoyed so much.

Lee was loved most by those who knew him, and even those that just met him, for his kindness, patience, positive attitude, great sense of humor,  interesting stories/conversations, and caring and giving personality.  He will be missed by all, and will live in our hearts and memories forever.

Survivors include Stacey (Don) Hanley of Oakwood Hills; three grandchildren, John (Maggie) Hanley, Shannon (Mike) Labuda, Casey (Megan Petti) Hanley; six great-grandchildren, Lucy, Eli, Bobby and Gus Hanley; and Alanna and Savannah Labuda; brother/sister-in-laws Bill/Colleen Guest and Dixie/Sara Guest; nephews Stephen Guest, Keith Guest, Clay Crawford and niece Cindy Warf and their families, along with numerous good friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Ruth and son, Gregory Lee; along with his parents, Roy and Margaret, and step-mother Jean along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation for Lee will be 3 pm - 7 pm on Friday, April 29, at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home - 403 Silver Lake Road, Cary IL 60013.  Services will be at 10 am on Saturday, April 30, at Kahle-Moore, followed by burial at Windridge Memorial Park - 7014 S.
