Robert E. Kopacek, 88, died Thursday, November 18 at Good Shepherd Hospital. He was born September 26, 1933, in Chicago to Beatrice (nee Retzlaff) and Robert Kopacek. He was raised in Fox River Grove and lived in Cary for 47 years.
Robert served in the US Navy in the 1950s as a communication technician. He was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1999, he retired from the North Chicago VA Hospital where he worked as an electrical technician. He enjoyed playing hockey on the Fox River in his youth (and introducing his sons to the sport), playing tennis in middle age (particularly with his daughters), and playing golf in retirement. He was an amateur radio enthusiast his entire adult life, under the call sign K9OEE.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Jane, his children, Scott (Kim); Craig (Karen); Jill; and Linda; and two grandchildren, Holly and Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a Memorial Service for Bob on Saturday, December 11, 2021 with a visitation beginning at 12:30 PM and concluding with the Service at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2107 three Oaks Rd., Cary.
