Rita Beatrice Coffey, age 69, of Cary, IL, passed away on September 17, 2025, after a valiant battle with breast cancer. She was born November 19, 1955, the youngest of three children, to her loving parents, Earl and Fortunata (née Cerini) Quick.
Rita grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, where she attended St. Peter’s High School and later earned her degree from North Central Technical College.
In 1978, Rita married the love of her life, Maurice Coffey, whom she met while they were both working at the Social Security Administration in Mansfield. Maurice knew from the moment he met her that she was the woman he would marry and spend his life with. Together, they shared over 47 years of love, laughter, and partnership.
She went on to have a long and distinguished career with the United States federal government. Over the course of 35 years, she served in several federal agencies, spending the majority of her career with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Chicago. Through dedication, hard work, and integrity, she rose through the ranks, receiving multiple promotions and numerous awards recognizing her outstanding performance and service.
Beyond her career, Rita was kind, compassionate, generous, loving, and fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She had a strong work ethic but also a fun-loving spirit, always ready to laugh and enjoy life. She loved animals, especially her pets, and enjoyed reading, playing online games, watching her favorite TV and streaming shows, and traveling both in the U.S. and abroad. Her favorite trip was a memorable journey to New Zealand with her husband.
During her 69 years, Rita touched the lives of many, leaving behind a multitude of cherished memories. Hers was truly a life well lived—full of love, joy, and commitment. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.
