Richard Leo Boos

Richard “Dick” Leo Boos, son of Walter and Helen (née Curran) Boos, was born October 10, 1932, in Dixon, IL, and passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen (née Kotlarz) Boos, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage; and by his brothers, Robert Boos and William Boos.

Dick spent the majority of his life in Cary, IL, where he and Eileen raised their three children: Susan (Mark) Kilayko of Grapevine, Texas; Michael (Patty) Boos of Glenview; and Kim (David) McGreevy of Barrington.

Known affectionately as “Papa,” Dick was a devoted grandfather who could almost always be found on the sidelines, enthusiastically cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events: Caroline and Christopher Kilayko; Patrick, Rory, Owen, and Emmet Boos; and Matthew, Kate, and Meredith McGreevy. His presence, encouragement, and pride in his family were a constant source of joy.

Dick and Eileen met while they were both teaching at Park School in Arlington Heights. His passion for education continued throughout his career. He earned his doctorate in Education, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and to the students and educators he served. He soon became a principal of Maplewood School in Cary, IL and later spent 34 years at Alcott and Kilmer schools in Buffalo Grove, IL.

After retirement, Dick kept busy tutoring at Saints Peter & Paul School, golfing, following Notre Dame football, and enjoying trips to Starbucks while reading his four daily newspapers! He was a lifelong learner, a dedicated educator, and a man who found happiness in the simple routines and relationships that filled his days.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dick’s amazing care team and dear buddies, Noonan, Danny, and Khalil, for their kindness, companionship, and loving care.

Dick will be deeply missed by his children and grandchildren who often giggled at his funny quips. His legacy of love, dedication to education, and unwavering support for his family will live on in those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be 9:30am until mass at 10:30am, Friday, September 4, 2026, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 410 N. First Street, Cary, IL 60013. Fr. Akan Simon will be officiating.

Interment to follow at Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Road, Cary, IL 60013.
