Peter Morici, a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, passed away suddenly due to cardiac arrest on April 29, 2025, in Rome, Italy, at the age of 76. Born on October 13, 1948, in the picturesque town of Campofelice di Roccella in Sicily, Italy, Pete was a man whose life was characterized by a profound dedication to his family, an unwavering work ethic, and a zest for life that was truly infectious.
Pete is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Laura, and their loving children: daughter Janet Niedert and her husband Tony, along with their children Vincent, Nash, and Rosina of Wes Des Moines, Iowa; and son John Morici and his wife Alycia, with their children Luca, Christian, and Milena of Kildeer, Illinois. He also leaves behind his dear sister Angela Cianciarulo and her husband Barry of Huntley, Illinois, and his cherished nephews Jason, with his wife Millie Leatham and their children Charlotte and Georgia of Huntington Beach, California; Matthew, with his wife Amy, and their children Lily and Kyle of Huntley, Illinois; and Michael and his wife Sarah Butcher of Seattle, Washington. Preceding him in death were his mother Maria DiPasquale, and father Giovanni Morici, both born in Sicily.
Pete's formative years were spent in Chicago, where he graduated from Austin High School in 1967. With a sharp mind and a natural aptitude for science, he went on to study chemical engineering at Southern Illinois University. He served his country by joining the National Guard in 1971, earning a Marksman Badge, an Honorable Service Medal, and an Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. Pete was honorably discharged in 1976.
Professionally, Pete's analytical skills took him to Oslo, Norway, where he played a crucial role on an oil platform in the North Sea, analyzing water after an oil spill. His dedication and expertise did not go unnoticed, as he was honored with the Chairman's Award in 1992 at Abbott Labs. Pete's colleagues remember him as a man who was generous with his knowledge and time.
After retirement, he volunteered for the Friends of the Barrington Library and at S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church helping with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Pete faithfully picked up donated bread at the local Panera to give to the poor, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beyond his professional achievements, Pete was a man of many passions. A sports enthusiast, he loyally supported the Chicago Bears, White Sox, Blackhawks, and the Iowa Hawkeyes, bringing the same passion to cheering for his teams as he did to every aspect of his life. Keeping his finger on the pulse of current events, Pete was always ready for a lively discussion about the latest news.
Travel was another of Pete's great joys, with a special fondness for Door County, Wisconsin. He and Laura made it a tradition to visit every October, reveling in the autumnal beauty and the tranquility it offered them. An adventurous spirit, Pete also loved exploring new restaurants, always eager to taste different cuisines and share those experiences with his family and friends.
The legacy Pete leaves behind is immeasurable. His love for his family, his dedication to his career, and his enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Pete Morici's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the profound influence he had on the lives of many. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
