Mary Papastefan (nee Dukakis) died peacefully at home on March 16th, 2021 in Cary, IL at the age of 95.
Mary is survived by her children, Janet Kapelle (nee Papastefan) and William Papastefan (Gwen), her grandchildren Jennifer Thomas (nee Papastefan), Carolyn Anderson (nee Kapelle), Chad Pilcher, Melissa Kapelle, and Andrew Papastefan, and her siblings Angie Dolly (nee Dukakis), and Christine Dakos (nee Dukakis). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her husband Arthur Papastefan, her daughter Ellen Drivakos (nee Papastefan), her sister Evelyn Christian (nee Dukakis), and her son-in-law, Henri Kapelle.
Mary was born on January 13th, 1926 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania to John and Efhimia Dukakis (nee Kotronakis). She married Arthur in 1947 and raised her family in Des Plaines and Schaumburg, IL. She worked in accounting at Western Electric and spent many years volunteering in the classroom, hospital, and senior citizen center. Mary loved spending time with her beloved God-Daughter Renee Copeland. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, taking care of her family, and her goodbye statement of “love you more”.
Viewing will be held at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church located at 1449 N Quentin Rd, Palatine, IL on Monday, March 22nd from 9:30am to 10:30am and will be immediately followed by the funeral liturgy.
