Lucille Mary Jane Diges Obituary

Lucille Mary Jane Diges, age 89, of Cary, IL, passed away on September 26, 2025, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was born January 23, 1936 in Milwaukee, WI, the ninth of ten children to her loving parents, the late Stanley and Mary (née Drozd) Raszkiewicz.

Lucille graduated from Mercy High School in 1953, and earned her Registered Nursing degree from Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. That same year she married her beloved husband of 35 years, Melvin, and together they raised a family full of love. They were active in their church and community, and enjoyed spending time together with family and friends until Melvin’s passing in 1992.  Lucille lived in the Milwaukee area until moving to Cary in 2005 to live with her daughter.

Lucille dedicated her life to nursing and the care of others.  Her long and varied nursing career spanned the ER, neurology, geriatrics, private duty, manufacturing, and even penitentiary work.  She concluded her career as the staff nurse at St John’s Military Academy in southern Wisconsin.  Beyond her professional life, she was the person neighbors and friends came to first in an emergency. In times of need, Lucille was always ready with a helping hand, a bandage, or guidance.

Lucille enjoyed attending daily mass, water aerobics, cooking, reading, watching her favorite television programs, and socializing with her family and friends. Travel was one of her greatest joys, whether adventuring with Melvin across the U.S. and overseas, or later sharing trips with her sisters, nieces, and dear companions.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Diges; son, John L. Diges; all her brothers, Stanley, Edward, Leonard, Aloysius, Fr. Joseph Rasky, and Richard Raszkiewicz; and sisters, Jennie Herr, Helen Rewolinski, and Claire Race. She is survived by her children, Rosalie (the late Frank) Cammarata, Lucy Ann (Ray) Brown, Andrew (Shannon) Diges, and Mary Patricia Oliver; seven grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and countless friends whose lives she touched.
