Linda Smith, 75, of Cary, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2022, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois. Linda was born on April 24, 1947, to Bural Perry and Marjorie Cummins of Benton Harbor, MI. Widow of Dwight Smith (06/1946 - 03/2021). They celebrated more than 53 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Devin (05/1975 - 10/2021), and is survived by her 2nd son, Jordan, her grandson Graison, her granddaughter Kylie, and her dear friends.
She found laughter and friendship in the deaf community as a sign language translator & interpreter. She worked closely with many of her deaf friends and colleagues in complicated interpretations, such as legal and medical appointments. She also interpreted church services at Holy Cross Lutheran Church for many years.
Most importantly, she was an accomplished musician and piano teacher who had a profound impact on a great many students who have gone on to study and perform with some of the most prestigious music universities, institutions, companies, and orchestras throughout the world. Her last moments on Earth were spent listening to piano recordings made that morning by two of her former students. They ended with a final message, “Love you, Linda.”
She passed peacefully in the company of family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home in Cary, IL, on Tuesday, November 22nd, from 10:00 a.m. and concluding with a Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon.
