Kathleen "Kay" Marie Golec

Kathleen Marie Golec, affectionately known as Kay, passed peacefully on August 19, 2026 at the age of 87. She was born on November 14, 1938, in Chicago, IL, to Francis and Elizabeth (née Schilf) Brunner. Kay was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Kay was a furniture buyer for Wiebolt’s Stores, and then at age 50, became a Radiologist Technician until her retirement. She and Eugene, her high school sweetheart of more than 54 years, shared their love of travel which led them, by land and sea, to all the corners of the world. She enjoyed reading, and playing Sudoku, bridge, and other card games which brought her joy and connected her with a community of friends. She was a member of the St. Zachary Couples Club, Ss. Peter & Paul CRHP Ladies, and the Bridge Group at Evergreen.

Kay is survived by her children, Nancy (Daniel) Kellner, Daniel Golec, and Anthony (Laura) Golec; her grandchildren, Mason (Lexi) Kellner, Melissa (Troy) Solberg, Molly (Brenton) Wolter, Benjamin Golec, and Nicholas Golec; and her great-grandchildren, Weston Wolter, Willow Wolter, Lorelei Kellner, and Baby Girl Solberg. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Safin, Robert Brunner, and Margaret Draws. Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Golec; her parents, Francis and Elizabeth Brunner; and her brother, David Brunner.

Visitation will be 11:00am until funeral service at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Road, Cary, IL 60013.  Deacon Mike Boyce will be officiating.

Interment to follow at Saint John Nepomucene Cemetery, Church Road, Barrington, IL 60010.
