Joseph Edward Hartmann

Joseph “Joe” Edward Hartmann, age 70, of Rolling Meadows, IL, passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2026. Born August 9, 1955 in Springfield, IL, his family moved to Cary, IL when he was a child.

Joe graduated from Cary-Grove High School in 1974, where he participated in track, cross-country, and wrestling. After high school, he joined the US Army. He was very proud of his military service, where he was a member of the “Old Guard,” which is charged with protecting the president and the tomb of the unknown soldier. While serving, he completed the Marine Corp Marathon.

After the army, Joe attended Western Illinois University where he earned a Master’s of Economics degree. He went on to a career in marketing research and taught at Triton college.

Joe enjoyed studying military history. He was an avid sports fan, and loved the Chicago Cubs. He was also an active member of the American Legion.

Joe was very close to his family.  He is survived by his siblings, Michael (Kim) Hartmann, Janet (Mike) Lenz, and Bill Hartmann. He was fond of his nieces and nephew, Sarah Moony, Katie (Darshan Alagud) Hartmann, Megan Hartmann, and Jake (Meghan) Lenz.

A celebration of life will be held at the Cary Ale House, 208 W. Main Street, Cary, IL, on September 13, 2026 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. 

A military service will be held at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, 1005 Vattman Road, Fort Sheridan, IL, on September 14, 2026 at 10:00 am.
