Joseph (Joe) Stratford Colditz, Sr. 81 of Huntley, IL, passed away peacefully in Barrington, IL Friday, December 20, 2024, following an aggressive cancer diagnosis. Joe was born in Chicago, IL on July 22, 1943, to Gordon and Carolyn Colditz. 

Joe is survived by his son, Joseph Colditz Jr. (Susan), brother, Gordon (Chris) Colditz, nieces, Pamela Colditz & Lynn Beck (Scott), and nephew, Lyle Dorn Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Colditz and Carolyn Speciale, wife, Frances, and niece, Elaine Lonergan (Bill). 

Joe was an extremely proud military veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1965 as a military policeman in Germany and in helicopter field maintenance in South Vietnam. 

Professionally, Joe dedicated many years of service to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, working as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Correctional Bureau. 

Throughout much of his life he enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including scuba diving, alpine skiing, motorcycle touring, camping, and fishing. He was also previously a member of the National Ski Patrol and a diver with the McHenry County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency. Joe thoroughly enjoyed competitive cowboy shooting and was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society. 

Visitation will be Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at KAHLE-MOORE FUNERAL HOME OF CARY 403 Silver Lake Rd with interment at WINDRIDGE MEMORIAL PARK immediately following.  
Flowers and monetary donations are not necessary. The family would, however, greatly appreciate all those who knew Joe to share their rememberances, memories, and condolences on the Kahle-Moore Obituary Tribute Wall.
