John Sullivan Obituary

John Francis Sullivan, 73, of McHenry, IL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on November 30th, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born in Chicago, IL on October 6th, 1949 to James and Genevieve (Kwak) Sullivan.  During 1964, the family moved to Cary, IL where he graduated from Cary-Grove HS.  John joined the US Marine Corp in 1969 and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He worked as a production supervisor for over 35 years at Chroma Corporation in McHenry, IL.

John met the love of his life, Barbara, at Devil’s Lake State Park, WI.  They were married for 44 years and enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking road trips with each other.  John enjoyed his time at the family trailer in WI and always fit in a hike at Devil’s Lake.  This is a tradition that carries on with their 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Family always came first with John.  He was a loving husband, father, and Papa.  He was a dependable son and brother as well as a loyal friend and neighbor to many.  He will be remembered most for being a hard worker, his friendly smile, and easy-going nature.

John is survived by his wife Barbara (Gaulke); Loving father of Meghan (Patrick) Healy, Sean (Veronica) Sullivan, and Kathleen (Vojta) Hrdinka.  Proud Papa to Ava and Dylan Healy, and Bara and Kuba Hrdinka.  He is also survived by his brother Jim (Mary) Sullivan, and sisters Patricia (Dennis) Holm, Kathleen Howley, Frances (Danny) Wiggs, Mary (Joseph) Songin, Jane (Roger) Pechous, and Michelle (Mario) Crocco.  And many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kevin Sullivan.
