Jean-ette Schober, age 81, of McHenry, IL, passed away on July 30, 2025, knowing she was dearly loved. She is now with the love of her life, her husband and soulmate, the late Thomas Richard Schober, who preceded her in death in January, 2004.
Jean was born November 2, 1943 in Chicago, IL to her loving parents, Elmer and Vernette (née White) Johns. She attended elementary school in Cicero and graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School, Class of 1961. Throughout her high school years, she was active in the business leadership organization, Junior Achievement, and won many awards and accolades, including being elected National Conference Secretary.
A graduate of the University of Illinois/Chicago, Jean married her best friend, Tom, on May 2, 1970. A true team, they spent over 20 years volunteering and supporting the Junior Achievement program. After living in Missouri, California, New Jersey, and Ohio, they moved to Algonquin, IL in 1980. They were instrumental in the efforts to "Stop the Dump," founding members of The Trails of Algonquin Swim Club, moving it from Cary to Algonquin, and they also helped establish the Jacobs High School Swim Team.
Jean owned her own consulting business providing sales, marketing, training and office management services to a wide variety of businesses, from executive recruiters to manufacturers. She also created and conducted sales/motivational/training seminars for the cosmetic industry in St. Louis, San Francisco, New York, and Cincinnati. In 2003, she was employed by the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation, sharing her wealth of managerial experience in both the not-for-profit and business fields. In 2007, she became Vice President.
A believer in giving back to the community, Jean served on the Board of Directors of Family Alliance, which provides services for seniors, and was a Commissioner on the McHenry County Housing Commission. She was also a former President of the Algonquin Garden Club and Scholarship Chair of the McHenry County Republican Women's Club.
Jean is survived by her children, Bryan Thomas (Rebecca Bauman) of McHenry, Debra Jean (Steve) Schilke of Elgin, and Kevin Richard (Nikkole Kessler) of Beloit, WI; and grandchildren, Gabriela Jean, Makayla Sylvia, Emelia Faye, Isabella Rose, Erich Thomas Vader, Olivia Grace, and Zoey Grace.
