James D. Runchey Obituary

James D. Runchey, 89, died peacefully in his home on March 7th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newell, Iowa and self-supporting since age 14, Jim served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean war. He worked as a residential building contractor and real estate investor, and spent many happy retirement years at his farm in Hanover Illinois before moving back to Cary in 2015. A talented woodworker, Jim built everything from jewelry boxes for his granddaughters, to furniture, to a 14-foot sailboat the family enjoyed for many years. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (Mimi), sons Jim (Patti) Runchey and John (Tammy) Runchey, daughter Kim (Mike) Hartmann, grandchildren Katie (Darshan), Megan, Jessica, Sarah, and great-grandchildren Anjali and Akshay. A kind and quiet man with a subtle, wry sense of humor, he will be greatly missed. Services are private.
