Helen Glasder Obituary

Helen J. Glasder, 86, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a longtime resident of Cary, IL for over 65 years, died with her loving family surrounding her at Sunrise Assisted Living in Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was formerly from Chicago, IL where she graduated with honors from Taft High School. Helen met the love of her life, Dennis S. Glasder at Gateway Theatre after being encouraged by his sister to give her a ride home from work.

Sewing was an activity that Helen loved. She worked for Stretch and Sew Fabrics for several years and was a very accomplished seamstress. Outside of the home, she enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, camping, swimming, sewing, and square dancing with the “Swingin’ Squares” of Cary, IL. In 1983, Helen suffered a stroke that she worked very hard to recover from. She has always been and will continue to be an example for us all on how to get through things that come our way in life with faith, determination and support of family and friends with a smile on her face! Everything that Helen participated in, she did in a very big way, always giving her all and to others. In the years proceeding her stroke, Helen was an election judge for McHenry County. She was a Minister of Care for Saint Peter and Paul Church in Cary, IL. Her volunteer activities also included working on behalf of those with disabilities for independent living in Elgin and Mundelein. Part of her advocacy efforts included being a champion in Springfield to show support for the current ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).

When not volunteering, Helen enjoyed being a part of the knitting club, “Cultured Purls” of Cary, IL where she taught herself how to knit with one hand. We were blessed to receive the beautiful pieces that she gifted to us. She and Dennis were also very fond of traveling in their RV to blue grass music festivals throughout the Midwest as well as attending the festivals indoors.

Surviving Helen is her loving husband of 68 years, Dennis; her children, Steve (Kathy) Glasder, John (Patty) Glasder, Dolly (Rich) Schlottman, Joe (Michelle) Glasder, Tim Glasder, Ellen (Marvin) Pegarsch; sister in law, Nancy (Roy) Bobowski; niece, Cathy (Dale) King and many beloved nieces and nephews. Helen is preceded in death by her son Jim Glasder.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 9:30 – 10:30 at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Cary concluding with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.  Interment will follow the Mass at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, IL
