Gloria Marie Johnson, age 99, of Cary, passed away January 16, 2025, in 
Barrington. She was born on November 13, 1925, at home in Crystal Lake to Erwin 
and Christina (Dvorak) Meyer, Sr.   
     Gloria was raised in Crystal Lake and in Fox River Grove, graduating in 1943 from 
Crystal Lake Community High School. She worked for several years at Liberty 
Mutual in Chicago where she met her husband, Robert G. Johnson of Chicago. 
They were married on May 29, 1948, in Barrington.
     She was an avid reader of history, biography, always enjoying a debate on current 
events. For many years she spent Friday nights bowling with her girlfriends, 
delighted with the evening she was two points away from a perfect game. A 
devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be so missed.
     Gloria is survived by her daughters, Carol Larson of Elgin and Barbara (David) 
Crane of Aurora; grandsons, Ian Crane of Aurora and Michael Crane of Boston, MA; 
brother, Donald Meyer of Poway, CA; sister-in-law, Marilyn Meyer of McHenry; 
brother-in-law Donald Novak of Cary; and many nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; brothers, William (Mary) 
Meyer and Erwin Meyer, Jr.; sisters, Margaret Foreman and Betty Novak; sister-in
law, Sumie Meyer; and niece, Sharon Jorgensen.
