On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Frank Cammarata III, of Cary IL, passed away suddenly at age 77. Frank was born in Chicago on March 31, 1947 to the late Frank Jr and Rose (Rascia) Cammarata Ballien. He graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School, Saginaw Michigan, in 1965. His initial college career was cut short when he was drafted into the US Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam. During his tour of duty, he received a Purple Heart after his helicopter was shot down behind enemy lines. Following his military service, he moved to the Chicago area, earning his bachelor’s degree in professional studies from Roosevelt University in 2001. Frank worked as an engineer for the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries at multiple companies over a span of 40+ years across the United States, finally retiring in 2015. His career allowed him to travel the world but he chose his home as Cary, IL, where he lived for 34 years.
Frank did not lead his life as a spectator but instead enthusiastically raised his children and wholeheartedly contributed to any organization he joined. He enjoyed skiing, scuba diving and traveling. Over his adulthood, Frank was active in multiple snow ski clubs, the Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council, the American Blind Skiing Foundation (ABSF), and recently his local scuba shop and scuba club. He was generous with his time and actively worked to elevate those around him.
In a similar way, Frank was an adoring husband of Rosalie (Diges) Cammarata for 35 years and a loving father of Elaina (David) Tyree and Frank Cammarata Jr.
He is survived by his wife, two children, one brother James (Claudette) Cammarata and three sisters: Louise Eaton, Marie (James) Lamia, and Paula Cammarata (Dave Wiblishauser). Also, three aunts, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, aunts, uncles and by his first wife, Sandra Sullivan Cammarata.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Frank's name would be appreciated to the American Blind Skiing Foundation (ABSF.org or Veterans Path to Hope in Crystal Lake, IL.
