Fernando Herrejón Jr., affectionately known as "Nando" to his friends and loved ones, embarked on his final adventure on December 14, 2023, at the age of 29, in Cary, IL. Nando was born on October 15, 1994, in Elgin, IL, into the loving arms of Fernando Herrejón Sr. and Marbella Ángeles. His story was one filled with laughter, love, and an insatiable zest for life, told with the same charisma and charm that he radiated every day.
Never one to do anything by half-measure, Nando took his culinary talents to McHenry County College. Though the world may never get to taste what could have been his next great recipe, he poured his passion into sizzling dishes that made taste buds dance. But wisdom often comes in a chef's hat—Nando knew the key ingredient in life was laughter, and boy, did he serve it up in spades.
In his time outside the fabled kitchen, Nando was a maestro of mirth, a connoisseur of cartoons, and a savant of the small screen. He loved nothing more than to jam out to his favorite tunes unless, of course, it was immersing himself in the fantastical worlds of anime. Like a culinary wizard, he could whip up a storm of joy with his conspiracy video revelations or lead his Clash of Clans troops to victory with the tactical skill of a four-star general.
But let's not forget his all-time favorite activity—loyally cheering on the Chicago Bulls with a fervor matched only by his skills at the gaming console. Win or lose, Nando was always ready with a quip, a crack, a jest that could flip a frown upside down faster than you could say "slam dunk."
Stories flowed from Nando's pen like he was the narrator of his own gregarious galaxy. His whimsical tales were peppered with characters as colorful as his own personality—no doubt many of whom bore a striking resemblance to his cherished niece, Vianney Ariella Roque, his partner-in-crime for many an animated caper. Together with his adoring sister Vanessa, they formed an unbeatable trio, ones whose laughter would echo in the halls of memory forever.
Professionally, Nando hit every mark, quite literally, as he nabbed accolades and certificates like they were going out of style while working at Aptar. Each 100% target rate hit was just further proof of his enduring motto, "Go big or go home"—and Nando never went home early.
And yet, while the anime may have paused and his gaming avatars are in eternal rest mode, the essence of Nando—the funny, loving, and generous soul—plays on in the hearts he touched. He was a vibrant spirit who could find humor in the darkest corners, shed warmth on the coldest days, and who wasn't shy to express love as generously as he would his comedic barbs.
From sharing scrumptious food to embarking on the latest digital quest or breaking down the intricacies of the latest crime documentary, Nando was a man who not only walked on the sunny side of the street but also invited everyone to come along and enjoy the parade.
When the final credits rolled on his all-too-short but brilliantly vivid blockbuster of a life, Fernando 'Nando' Herrejón Jr. left behind not just the echoes of his laughter but an indelible mark on the souls of his friends and family, every single one of them richer for having known him. So raise a glass, strike up the band, and let's give a standing ovation for a life so boldly and beautifully lived. Cue the applause, and maybe, just maybe, in the quiet that follows, you'll hear Nando's laughter, cheering us all on from the greatest stadium of all.
