Edward Pokorny Obituary

Edward Joseph Pokorny, known affectionately as Ed, or Uncle Eddie, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, in Freeport, IL. Ed was born on October 16, 1938, in Cary, IL, to Rose and Joseph Pokorny. His life was a testament to the joy and strength found in a large family, and he carried that spirit of kinship throughout his entire life.

Ed's life was characterized by the spirited and gentle nature that endeared him to all who knew him. Throughout his career, Ed was a dedicated and skilled employee at the Rolling Hills Progress Center, where he took pride in his work as a screw professional.

Outside of his professional life, Ed's interests were simple yet deeply rooted in the joys of everyday pleasures. He had a particular fondness for dollars, not for their monetary value, but for the root beer they could buy—a small indulgence that brought him great satisfaction. He loved to watch Western movies, and catch the Cubs games on TV anytime he could.

Ed was the cherished ninth child out of eleven siblings in a lively and loving family. Preceded in death by Charlie Pokorny, Rosemary (Noni) McGraw, Margaret Aldrich, Freddie Pokorny, Joe Pokorny, Francis Pokorny, George Pokorny; survived by Sister Mary Pokorny O.P., Clara Riesner, and Judy Michaelis. He also had many nieces and nephews who embodied the caring nature that the family was all about. He cared deeply for his family, his people, and each of them played a special role in his life. He also had an extended family at Gordon Jones Terrace, where he lived in Lanark, IL, from the care workers to his house mates whom he loved dearly.

Edward Joseph Pokorny's journey through life was a path filled with the happiness of small moments and the love of a big family. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have through a lifetime of sincere smiles, heartfelt laughter, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living. Ed will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

We take comfort in the knowledge that his was a life lived with joy, a life that reflected the very essence of the human spirit. We say goodbye to Ed, not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with him. Rest in peace, Edward Joseph Pokorny—a true embodiment of a gentle and spirited soul.
