Don Motz Obituary

Don Maurice Motz, age 94, of Gilbert, AZ, passed away on August 18, 2025. He was born April 10, 1931 to his parents, Ward Motz and Margaret Anderson.

Born in Terre Haute, IN, Don spent his early years there before moving with his family to Texas, and then later to Chicago during his teenage years. After graduating high school, Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his service, he returned to Chicago and established Advance Refrigeration, his appliance sales and service business, which he owned and operated for more than 30 years. Through his work, Don became well known for his integrity, reliability, and warm, friendly manner.

In the early 1950’s, Don married Margaret Partington, with whom he shared more than five decades of marriage until her passing in 2005. He later found companionship again with Lenore Van Weil, who also preceded him in death.

Don’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Holidays, family trips, and adventures with his grandchildren were among his most cherished memories. His devotion to his loved ones and his friends was unwavering, and his warmth and friendliness touched everyone he met.

Outside of his professional and family life, Don enjoyed working outdoors in his yard, reading, tackling puzzles, listening to music, and traveling. In his younger days, he found joy in motorcycling, a reflection of his adventurous and spirited personality.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, John Walter Motz and Ward Motz. He is survived by his children, Linda (Kurt) Harjung, Patty (John) Glasder, and Don Alan (Stacey Scibelli) Motz; grandchildren, Nicholas Harjung, Lisa (Michael) Spence, Leanne (Christopher) Russo, Jason (Gwen) Harjung; Jennifer (Joseph) Cerny, Nicole Glasder, Jesse Roethemeyer, Haley Roethemeyer, Zebadiah Scibelli-Gotlieb, Griffin Scibelli-Gotlieb, and Wyatt Scibelli-Gotlieb; and 12 great-grandchildren.
