On Friday, January 7, 2022, Charlotte Mildred Hoger received her Crown of Glory at the age of 90. Charlotte was born in Chicago, Illinois and was baptized into God’s kingdom on April 24, 1931 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. After attending St. Stephen’s Elementary school, Charlotte graduated from Luther Institute. It was here that the Koseck sisters, Lorraine and Chuckie, as Charlotte was affectionately called, were a force to behold on the girls basketball team.
After marrying and while raising her two children, Charlotte worked several jobs. For many years, she served as one of the favorite lunch ladies and cook at St. Paul Lutheran School, Melrose Park. From there she moved into the position of school secretary, where she could use her amazing shorthand and typing skills. She was able to type the words almost as quickly as a person could talk. Charlotte then took her skills to Concordia University, Chicago, where she retired as administrative assistant to the university president.
After serving as a faithful and active member at St. Paul, Charlotte retired to Lakeville, Minnesota to be near her daughter and family. Retirement did not slow Charlotte down. The Lakeville Senior Center was a favorite hangout, with Charlotte participating in line dancing and every seasonal craft show, where she proudly sold her items. Charlotte was also an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and a key participant in founding the Feed My Sheep Food Shelf, now known as the Messiah Community Foodshelf.
Charlotte was best known for her sweet tooth and love of baking. She was happiest sharing cookies and desserts with friends and family. Later in life, she took joy in sitting in the sunshine and crocheting blankets for her family.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her mother Mildred and her beloved sister, Lorraine. She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Jim) Montgomery, son Mark (Jean) Hoger, grandchildren Allison (Nathan) Devroy, Timothy (Jillian) Montgomery, Jamie (Phillip) Hanson, Christine Hoger, Aaron (Rita) Hoger, Kaylee Hoger (fiancée David VanDeven), special nieces Karen Leonard and Carol Leonard, and her great grand loves, Ronald Devroy, Franklin Devroy, and Cecelia Montgomery, as well as her extended Leonard family.
