Bonnie Lee Calhoun Obituary

Bonnie Lee Calhoun, age 83, of Cary, IL, passed away on December 9, 2025. She was born December 2, 1942 in Elgin, IL, the beloved daughter of John and Ruth (née Erixson) Riley, and caring sister of Hobart, Sue, Bruce, and Wendy. Her childhood memories were filled with family, and dotted with sibling adventures and tales with close cousins.

After graduating high school, Bonnie began training in cosmetology. There was an unintentional hair coloring incident involving “a lovely shade of violet,” before she eventually found her true calling as a wife and mother. The day she met Delbert Calhoun, she knew she was going to marry him. They were wed on July 1, 1961, and were soon after blessed with their first child, Delbert Jr. Their family continued to grow with the addition of John, Mickey, and Nicole, and sometime later, they completed their family with the unexpected arrival of Helena.

When her children were older, Bonnie returned to the workforce. She began in the bindery department of a local printing company and worked her way to customer service. She retired in 2009 to care for her grandchildren.

Bonnie lived with a quiet strength that carried her through the sudden loss of her husband in 1990. She channeled her strength into the boot scootin’ boogie, when she found new life and friendships in country line dancing. She was a breast cancer survivor that faced chemotherapy and hair loss with a bright pink wig because “it made her smile.” Her home was a refuge with an open door, and she was always willing to make the best baked beans for a family event. She was a collector of dolls, Coca-Cola, Fenton glass, and people that loved her.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Bruce; and sister, Sue. She will be missed by her children; grandchildren, Katrina (Amanda), Brittany (Ian), Allan, Zach, Vaughan, Alyssa (Jon), Lilah, Brody, Braelynn, and Lanie; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Josh, and Oliver; brother, Hobart; sister, Wendy; and extended family and friends.
