Barbara Jean (Kirvelay) Raupp Obituary

Barbara (Barb) Jean Raupp passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, in Huntley, Illinois, with three of her children by her side, after bravely facing a chronic illness for the past several years. Born on October 26, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Barb's warm smile and gentle spirit were a gift to all who knew her. Her 81 years were marked by love, strength, generosity, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life.

Barb grew up on the north side of Minneapolis, where she attended Patrick Henry High School. After graduating, she worked at First National Bank in Minneapolis for six years before moving to Illinois to marry Donald Raupp, her husband of 44 years.

Family was the cornerstone of Barb's world, and she was a devoted mother to her four children: Patrick (Karen), Joyce (Jeff), Mark, and Don (Heather). Her love for them was boundless and it only grew when she embraced the role of grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Justin (Tracey), Jeremy (Racquel), Jake, Jill, Joshua (deceased), John, Haily, and Payton. In 2021, Barb was elated to become a great-grandmother when Justin and Tracey welcomed Vander into the world. Barb's family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them, especially the laughter and stories shared during family gatherings. She also loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, and dance competitions. As her health declined and she could no longer physically attend her grandson’s hockey games, she enjoyed regular updates on the score via text messages.

In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, Barb is survived by her loving sister, Mary Ann, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Barb was a tremendously hard worker and held several jobs outside the home throughout her adult life, including working as a Walmart sales associate for many years.

An avid reader, Barb found enjoyment and adventure within the pages of countless books, especially mystery novels. Barb's affinity for the outdoors was equally profound. She loved taking walks in her neighborhood, especially with her dear friend, Rosa, and enjoyed friendly conversation with everyone that crossed her path. Barb also loved to bake and her annual ‘Christmas Cookie Bake’ with her grandkids was a beloved family tradition.

Those who knew Barb would describe her as the epitome of strength, kindness and generosity. She faced life's challenges, particularly her health battles, with grace and fortitude and a strong desire to overcome. She rarely complained, and the health care professionals who cared for her often commented about her smile and her sense of humor.

Barb’s presence was a comfort to those that loved her, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to call her mom, grandma, sister, or friend. She was a beacon of love, gentleness, and kindness, and though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Barb's memory will be cherished forever, and her story will be told with love by those who knew her best.

Barb's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the kind and compassionate staff at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital who cared for Barb over the past several years and especially in the days prior to her passing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
