Albert D. Martel Jr., age 74, of Fox River Grove, IL, passed away on September 25, 2026. He was born on September 16, 1952 in Elgin, IL to his loving parents, Helen (née Hauck) and Albert D. Martel Sr. Affectionately known to many as "Skip," Albert lived a life of incredible courage, laughter, and boundless support for those he loved.
Albert, a man of many talents, was a long-time resident of Fox River Grove, IL. He was a retired over the road truck driver, finding joy in the open road and the tranquility of long drives. Albert's life was a testament to the words of Mark Twain: "The secret to getting ahead is getting started," as he was never one to shy away from a challenge, always meeting life head-on with a courageous heart and a ready smile.
Albert's life was richly blessed with meaningful relationships, and he was loved by many. His love for his family and friends was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a funny, supportive, and talented individual. Albert's home was his sanctuary, and he took great pride in his landscaping, often seen watching hummingbirds from his front porch, an activity he found deeply soothing and fulfilling. As Albert often remarked, "The best time wasted is the time spent with family and friends." He lived this sentiment every day, creating lasting memories with those who meant the world to him.
Albert is survived by his daughter, Cristina Martel; his brother, Rob (Susan) Martel; and his sister, Susan (Pete) Penkava. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces who will miss his hearty laughter and wise counsel. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr. and Helen Martel; his son, Jason Martel; his wife Glory Martel; and his sisters, Kathy and Debbie Martel.
In honor of Skip's life, we encourage friends and family to leave memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Let's celebrate the wonderful life Albert lived and the beautiful memories he left behind.
