Gordon Russell Brockway, age 87 of Barrington, formerly of Cary passed away November 10, 2018. He was born December 17th, 1931 in the town of Barrington, Il, the only child of Russell and Leona (Deutschman) Brockway. Gordon grew up on the corner of Lake and Dundee in a home built by his father in the town of Barrington and graduated from Barrington High School. He went on to graduate from Dubuque University in 1953 with a major in Banking and Finance.Gordon was drafted to serve our country in the United States Army from December 4, 1953 until December 2, 1955 when discharged at the rank of Corporal. After military service he worked many years for the First National Bank of Barrington. Later Gordon switched careers to follow his interest in technology and worked at Accutronics in Cary, Il until his retirement at the age of 62.Gordon married Patricia Galvin in 1957. Children from that union are Julie, Mark, and Lynn. They later divorced. On October 7, 1972 he married Mary Ann Karnowski. They just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Children from that union are Victoria and Christine. Throughout his life he greatly enjoyed traveling US highways with his parents, and later with his family always in a Chrysler car on vacations. Camping trips in the days of canvas with his parents in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota were the highlights of his youth. He never missed an opportunity to visit his children, grandchildren, and great-grand daughter, with his wife Mary Ann. Reminiscing with old high school and college classmates, and just talking to strangers along the way, provided the many stories he would share throughout the years when making the weekly phone calls to everyone he loved. He enjoyed a very full life with family, friends, and the numerous pets he loved.Gordon loved to talk, tell his stories, and shared his gift of kindness, compassion, the ability to listen, and make others feel at ease. No distance was too far to see his, kids, and grandkids participate in any school activity.Gordon was active in his community as a Cary Kiwanis and serving on the Cary Planning Board. He enjoyed studying early American history. Few could match his knowledge of George Washington. He was moved by others acts of generosity and how he was cared for later in his life as his health deteriorated up until the time of his death on November 10, 2018.He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, children Julie (Bob) Mitchell, Mark (Evelyn) Brockway, Lynn (Brian) Zirzow, Victoria (Cesar) Ortega, and Christine (Austin) Hubert.
