Bradley Snyder Obituary

Bradley J. Snyder, 50, of Cary, passed away on Friday, March 3 after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Brad was born on February 10, 1967 in Chicago to Marie Penkava and James Snyder. When he was 9 years old, he moved to McHenry with his parents and his sister, Kim. A natural born athlete, Brad lettered in football and baseball and was a wrestler. He graduated from McHenry High School and went on to study history and English Literature at Ripon College, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1989.A renaissance man, he loved to read and teach his students and children his love for literature-Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Ernest Hemmingway. The Sun Also Rises was one of his favorites. As an adult, his love for sports continued to grow. He was a life-long Cubs fan, and instilled his love for baseball through coaching high school students and his own children's community leagues. He dreamed of reaching every baseball stadium in the United States and made great progress toward achieving this goal.Brad is survived by his four children, Alexa and Hayden of Cary, Eric, of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Matthew, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his wife, Julie, of 14 years; his parents, Marie and Jim of McHenry; and his sister Kim (Gary) of St. Charles.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Iola and Carroll Snyder, and Frieda and Frank Penkava. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2107 Three Oaks Rd., Cary. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 10th at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be private for the family.The family asks in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Rush University Medical Center, Lung Cancer Research, Office of Philanthropy, 1700 W. Van Buren, Suite 200, Chicago, Illinois 60612 or online at www.rush.edu. The family is also establishing a scholarship fund for his two youngest children.
