Betty Welisek Obituary

Betty A. Welisek, age 89 of Fox River Grove passed away April 16, 2017 at Good Shepherd Hospital. She was born September 11, 1927 in Chicago, the daughter of Bernard and Marjorie Long. Betty is survived by her husband Ben F. Welisek whom she married February 26, 1949 in Cary. She is also survived by her children: Kathleen (Michael) Hartke, William (Chris) Welisek and James Welisek, her grandchildren: Christopher (Rachel) Hartke, Jonathan (Liz) Hartke, Daniel (Sara) Hartke, Benjamin Hartke, Ryan (Kassidy) Welisek and Steven Welisek, 13 great grandchildren as well as her brother William (Barbara) Long and a sister-in-law Terry (Charles) James. Betty graduated from Austin High School in Chicago and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In her early years her family summered in Cary in Mt. Moriah along the river. During WW II Betty worked for the Jewel T. Co. packing k-rations for our soldiers and then worked for Illinois Bell as an operator. She then was secretary and treasurer for Grove Electric in Fox River Grove for many years. She was very active in the community as past-president of the Fox River Grove American Legion Auxiliary, a Girl Scout Leader in Fox River Grove, a member of the Algonquin Township S.W.A.T. team as well as a longtime member of the Sage YMCA. Betty loved the outdoors, including working in the yard and bird watching; she was an amateur radio operator (handle W9NVS). Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Visitation will be held for Betty on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary.
