Robert Langhamer Obituary

Robert (Bob) Langhamer passed away at home on July 7, 2018. He was born at home in Chicago, IL on August 1,1930 where he lived until 1961 when he moved his family to Cary, IL. A first generation computer programmer for Uarco, Inc., Bob at age 18 began working in Uarco's mail room in Chicago. He was educated by IBM & Honeywell & became Lead Programmer & Technical Specialist among other titles & positions. He retired after 45 years with the same firm. Always a techie, Bob had recently purchased a smart phone, began texting & also maneuvered his way through his smart TV to watch movies on Amazon Prime. Bob & his wife Kay enjoyed playing golf since 1972 & were long-time members of Cary Country Club. In his later years, you could find him tuned into the professional golf tournaments on television every weekend. In the 1960s he & close friends served as auxiliary policemen on the Cary Police Department; a rewarding experience. A quiet man who was a true homebody, Bob enjoyed the home he made for himself & his family in Cary & he seemed to prefer sitting at his computer or on his LaZ-Boy watching his programs to any place else. His keen sense of humor kept everyone in stitches but you had to listen carefully as he threw out his quips in hushed comments. An avid woodworker for many years, Bob made many pieces of furniture for his family that are cherished gifts. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Kay (Catherine) Langhamer, his son Keith Langhamer, his brother Joe Langhamer & sister Sylvia Dagenais & his parents, Adolf & Mary Langhamer. Bob is survived by his daughters Renee (Darren) Jones & Cathy (Tim) Porter, his daughter-in-law Amy Langhamer, grandchildren Jason (Allie) Porter, Kyra (Tom) Tillman, Gina Jones, Melissa (Paul) Williamson, Shana Jones, Jenna (Randy) Freeman & Kaitlyn Langhamer. His great-grandchildren Ben Porter, Reagan & Killian Tillman, Chloe & Lily Unger, Karl, McKaylee & Rowdy Williamson, Brenna, Jordan & Lincoln Freeman were recipients of his big-hearted love. He is sorely missed & loved by all of his family that includes beloved nieces & nephews, sisters-in-law & brother-in-law & dear friends who are part of the family.
