Richard A. Varys

Richard Allen Varys, age 90, of Crystal Lake, passed away November 8, 2017. He was born October 6, 1927 in Chicago to John and Lillian Varys. Richard is survived by his six children: Terry (Jim) Pitzer, Larry (Renee) Varys, Steven (Mary Lou) Varys, Julie (Fred) Vagts, Chuck (Amy) Varys and Jeffery (Miriam) Varys, as well as 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren (3 more on the way), and 1 great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 13 years, Shirley Hein Varys and his wife of 50 years Virjeanne Frisch Varys. He was also preceded by his siblings: John Varys, Lillian Kobler, and Helen Cuber Richard proudly served his country for two terms in Japan and Korea. He worked at Illinois Bell for 35 years as a teletype repairman and drove a Bus for District 47/155. He was also a Scout Leader and Little League Coach.Richard was a long time member of Cary United Methodist Church and was instrumental in bringing walk to Emmaus to Northern Illinois. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Cary United Methodist Church, 500 First St. Cary starting at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 12:00 and a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated to Cary United Methodist Church, Northern Illinois Emmaus Community, or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
