Kay Zito, age 78 of Cary passed away the morning of November 22, 2014 from her long struggle with Alzheimer's and dementia. She was born October 15, 1936 in Chicago, the daughter of Roy and Fern Ankerberg. Kay was a devoted beautician since 1970 and opened her own salon in Cary in 1976 and named it "Studio Kay." Kay was ambitious, fun loving, outgoing and giving. Kay loved her family and friends and was always there when they needed her. Her lifelong friend since 2nd grade, Carole Bernard, was there for Kay before and throughout the onset of her struggles with dementia. She loved animals especially her dog Cody Bear whom she adopted from a no-kill shelter. Cody Bear was her companion for 11 years. Kay is survived by two daughters: Michele (Zito) Hanke and Kristine (Zito) Dorn, her grandchildren Shannon, Elizabeth, Tim, Allison, Trevor and Megan, her gr. grandchildren Emalina Hernandez, Luis Cordona and Olivia Cordona as well as her sisters Joan Garner and Gail Heather. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen Zito and well known Cary Police Chief Joseph Zito. Visitation will take place Friday, November 28, 2014 from 2:00 until 6:00 PM with a Memorial Servfice at 5:00 PM at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation, ASCAP or Wounded Warriors.
