Donald G. Duray, 86, of Cary, died peacefully surrounded by his family on February 9th, 2018. He was born October 8th, 1931 in Chicago, IL the son of Harriet Duray and George Krause. Don graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1949. This served as the foundation for his passion of science and his intellectual curiosity of how the world works. He served in the US Air Force as a jet mechanic during the Korean War and continued to serve in the National Guard. He was a valuable employee for over 30 years at US Gypsum where he worked in research and development. He was a master hobbyist and his interests included model railroading, model building and restoring vintage cars and boats. He could build and repair anything and was the go to consultant for anyone who needed help. He married Annette DeWyze on November 23rd, 1957 and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. He was blessed with four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, which were his top priority and the light of his life.Don is survived by his wife, Annette, his children Sharon (Don Wilkerson), Debbie (George Hepburn) Kevin (Donna Duray) and Michelle (Ted Ahr); eight grandchildren, David (Heather) Murphy, Cameron and Colin Hepburn, Matthew, Daniel and Joshua Duray and Kylee and Emilee Ahr; and two great-grandchildren, Molly and Margo Murphy. Friends and family may come to celebrate Don's life from 9-10:30 Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 410 N. First St. in Cary followed by Mass at 10:30 am.
